Episode RFT 012 features an interview with Walt Fricke, the founder of Veterans Airlift Command. Walt talks about his love of aviation from a young age, his service in Vietnam, and his creation of this exceptional charitable organization.
Walt started flying when he was a teenager, and became an Army helicopter pilot. While in Vietnam, he was severely injured, and experienced first-hand the loneliness of recuperating in a military hospital far from home. Walt went on to a successful career in banking, and after he retired he conceived the idea of serving injured veterans. He created an organization to transport wounded warriors, veterans and their families through a network of volunteer aircraft and pilots.
