RFT 001: Getting An Airline Job

Series Overview & Becoming An Airline Pilot

The airline hiring process changed when FAA regulations required all pilots - Copilots as well as Captains - to have an Airline Transport Pilot certificate. That requires flying time of at least 1500 hours. This requirement can be lowered to 1000 hours, for a Restricted ATP, if the applicant has a Bachelors Degree from an approved aviation institution. To take the written examination for the ATP certificate, the applicant must complete an ATP Certification Training Program, consisting of classroom and simulator training. Again, the school conducting this training must be approved by the FAA.AC_61-138Institutional_Authority_ListATP_CTP_Providersairline job
